Used as a location for many a film, the lake is also an ideal setting for pre-wedding preparations or rendezvous’ on that most important of days. The area is renowned for its hot springs, Etruscan ruins and renaissance villas, as well as medieval hamlets such as Bassano Romano which the villa overlooks from its verdant hilltop.

Exiting the city of Rome from the North West, take the Via Cassia towards Viterbo. At precisely 48.5 km from Rome you will come to the Casa Cantoniera. Take the left turn immediately after the house, signposted for Bassano Romano. Continuing for 5 km you will pass through a small wood and cross a bridge before reaching this quaint medieval town. The centre of Bassano Romano is defined by the monument of Vittorio Emanuele, in the piazza of the same name. At this point, turn right, passing under the picturesque arches onto Via Oriolo. About one kilometre later you will find the Casina di Poggio della Rota.
